Mind Body Heart Soul

Approach

My approach is respectful, warm, caring, collaborative and holistic.  My work is trauma informed and underpinned with the knowledge that the mind, body, heart and spirit are an integrated whole, not separate from one another.

I gently encourage listening inwards, with compassion and warm curiosity.  I know that compassion and loving kindness towards ourselves is vital to healing.  Being understood, seen and heard, heals, nourishes and helps us to know ourselves.  Being connected to ourselves, our bodies, our stories, our roots give our lives meaning, significance, substance and satisfaction.

And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk to blossom.

~ Anais Nin
My work is influenced by ancient Celtic, Taoist and Buddhist wisdom and also resonates with te whare tapa whā - a holistic Māori model of health and wellbeing.

Te whare tapa whā was developed by Māori health advocate Sir Mason Durie and is way of understanding health and wellbeing as a wharenui/meeting house with four walls. The four walls represent:
  • taha wairua - spiritual wellbeing
  • taha hinengaro - mental and emotional wellbeing
  • taha tinana - physical wellbeing
  • taha whānau - family and social wellbeing

It is our connection with the whenua/land/roots that forms the foundation.  When all these things are in balance, we thrive. When one or more of these is out of balance our wellbeing is impacted.

When we move towards balance in our lives, become more connected to Mother Earth and each other, when we take the time to go more slowly, listen deeply, come more fully into our bodies, uncover our authentic selves and acknowledge the complexities of life - we can create happier, more compassionate, more peaceful lives, homes, communities and world.
